Transparencia Electoral was received by the President of the Congress of Peru to analyze the the future of the country’s electoral system

Lima, Peru — September 30th, 2026 — The President of the Congress of the Republic of Peru, Miguel Ángel Torres Morales, met this Wednesday with the Executive Director of Transparencia Electoral, Leandro Querido. During this working meeting, they analyzed the main challenges facing the Peruvian electoral system ahead of upcoming electoral processes.

The meeting, held in the Office of the President of Congress, addressed the results and key findings of Transparencia Electoral’s election observation mission during the 2026 General Elections, as well as identified best practices and outstanding challenges for further strengthening the integrity of the democratic process.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on the challenges facing the Peruvian electoral system and the importance of creating spaces for technical dialogue to analyze comparative experiences and contribute to public debate regarding potential electoral reforms.

In this context, the Executive Director of Transparencia Electoral expressed a willingness to jointly organize an international gathering in Lima aimed at disseminating and sharing the various experiences with electoral reform across Latin America.

The initiative would seek to bring together specialists, electoral authorities, legislators, and representatives of institutions linked to democratic processes from various countries in the region, with the goal of sharing experiences, identifying lessons learned, and analyzing the challenges posed by the modernization of Latin American electoral systems.

For Transparencia Electoral, regional exchange is a fundamental tool for promoting informed reform processes based on evidence and the experiences accumulated by various Latin American countries.

The organization highlighted the importance of maintaining an ongoing dialogue with Peruvian public institutions and contributing—from a technical and comparative perspective—to the strengthening of democracy and electoral processes. The meeting is also part of a work agenda that Transparencia Electoral has been carrying out in Peru, aimed at strengthening cooperation with national institutions and fostering forums for the exchange of ideas regarding electoral integrity, technology, election observation, citizen participation, institutional reforms, and data privacy protection within the electoral context.
